AlertKite vs UptimeRobot
UptimeRobot is a good product with a genuinely generous free tier. Here is where each of us actually wins.
Where UptimeRobot is better
- Free monitors. 50 on their free plan against our 25. If you need to watch 40 sites for nothing, they are the better answer and we would rather say so.
- Checking locations. They check from multiple regions. We check from one, with a second confirming check before alerting — which catches most false positives but is not the same thing.
- Maturity. They have been doing this since 2010. We have not.
Where we are better
- WhatsApp, natively. UptimeRobot has no WhatsApp integration — it is a long-standing open feature request, and the usual answer is to bridge it through Zapier, Pipedream or n8n. That is a monthly subscription and a second thing to break, for a message.
- Cron monitoring included. Heartbeats are on every plan, including free.
- Certificate warnings that stop. 14, 7, 3 and 1 days, once each — not a daily reminder you learn to swipe away.
- Flap collapsing. A site bouncing up and down sends one “this is unstable” message, not fifteen.
You can use both
This is the option most people should take. Keep your monitors where they are and point their alerts at us for WhatsApp delivery — one webhook, no Zapier subscription. Works with UptimeRobot, Uptime Kuma, or anything that can make an HTTP request.
The honest summary
If you want the most free monitors and you read email promptly, use UptimeRobot. If you look after sites for clients and the thing that costs you is finding out late, the difference is whether the alert reaches you in a place you actually read — and that is worth more than 25 extra monitors.
