Terms of service
What you can expect from us, what we expect from you, and how either of us ends it. Short, because a long one only means the important parts are buried.

The service
AlertKite monitors websites, certificates, domains and scheduled jobs, and tells you when something is wrong. It also provides cookieless analytics for sites you add. Using it means you accept these terms.
Your account
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your credentials safe. One account may watch many sites, including your clients', which is the intended use.
You must only monitor endpoints you are authorised to monitor, and only install the analytics snippet on sites you control. We refuse checks against private networks and loopback addresses regardless.
What we promise, and what we do not
We will make a genuine effort to keep the service running and to alert you accurately. We do not offer a service-level guarantee, and you should not rely on AlertKite as your only safeguard against downtime.
A monitoring service can fail in the same moment as the thing it monitors — a network partition, an outage at our host, a provider refusing our mail. We would rather say that plainly than sell a certainty nobody can deliver. We are not liable for losses arising from an alert that did not arrive, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the previous twelve months.
Payment
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through Polar, our merchant of record, who handles payment and any applicable tax. Plans renew until you cancel. You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
If a subscription ends, your account returns to the free plan. Anything beyond the free allowance is paused rather than deleted, newest first, and comes back if you upgrade again.
If the service was not what you expected, write to us within thirty days and we will refund you. We would rather do that than argue.
Acceptable use
- Do not use AlertKite to attack, overload or probe systems you do not control.
- Do not use alerts to send unsolicited messages to people who have not asked to receive them.
- Do not resell the service as your own without asking us first — we are usually happy to say yes.
We may suspend an account that does these things, and we will tell you why.
Ending it
You can delete your account whenever you like and we will remove your data. We can close an account that breaks these terms, and we will refund anything paid for time not used.
If we ever shut the service down, we will give at least thirty days' notice and a way to export your data.
