AlertKite vs Pingdom

Pingdom is a serious product with two decades behind it. It is also priced for companies with a procurement process, which is the real difference.

Where Pingdom is better

  • Real user monitoring at scale. Their RUM is mature, segmented and built for large traffic. We collect Core Web Vitals from real visitors, which covers the common question, but it is not the same depth.
  • Global checking network. More than a hundred locations. We check from one region and confirm before alerting. If you genuinely need to know that your site is slow specifically from São Paulo, they answer that and we do not.
  • Transaction monitoring. Scripted multi-step checks that log in and complete a checkout. We check a URL, a keyword or a JSON path — enough for most, not for a full purchase flow.
  • Enterprise paperwork. SSO, SOC 2, procurement, a support contract. If your company requires those, that is decisive.

Where we are better

  • Price, by an order of magnitude. Pingdom's paid tiers start around ten times ours. For a freelancer or a small agency watching client sites, most of that buys capability you will never open.
  • Alerts that reach a phone. WhatsApp, Slack, Teams and Discord, with email always on underneath. Pingdom leans on email and SMS credits.
  • Cron monitoring included. Heartbeats for scheduled jobs on every plan. Pingdom does not do this at all.
  • A report for your client. A shareable monthly page an agency forwards to the person paying them. Pingdom's reporting is built for an internal team, not for handing over.
  • A free tier that runs a business. 25 monitors, free, permanently. Pingdom's free offering is a trial.

The honest summary

If you are a company that needs multi-region checking, scripted purchase flows and a signed support contract, Pingdom is the right tool and the price is not the point. If you are one person or a small agency looking after other people's sites, you are paying enterprise rates for a feature list you will not use — and getting no cron monitoring and no WhatsApp for it.
